We are pleased to launch our first community project, Citizens Against Hunger this week! It’s the opening project from our Community Project Group and a great place for the Trust to start working in our local communities.
The campaign will pick up where MCFC Fans Foodbank Support (MCFC FFS) left off last season by encouraging supporters to make donations to their local foodbank. Donations have so far been made by members to foodbanks in Manchester, Tameside, Stockport, Trafford, Bradford and other locations across the North.
Trust members and other City supporters are encouraged to get involved by donating non-perishable food items and toiletries to their local foodbanks this summer to support those in our communities who need additional help.
We’ve already had some great donations made by the Board and other members – so let’s keep it going over July and August!
Founder of MCFC FFS and interim Treasurer of the Trust, Alex Timperley said: “Manchester City fans are the biggest regular donors to Manchester Central Foodbank. Unfortunately, we can’t collect over the summer with no games on so it’s fantastic to see The Citizens Trust picking up the baton and continuing to support foodbanks across Greater Manchester and the UK.”
The campaign will be running from July until matchday foodbank collections resume in August. Members and other City supporters are encouraged to share photographs of their donations on social media using the hashtag #CitizensAgainstHunger.
Daniel Bowdler, interim Community Officer for the Trust said: “We at The Citizens Trust believe football to be more about the game itself. A football club is an expression of a community, a place where people come together to find a sense of belonging and lookout for each other. Our first community project, Citizens Against Hunger, will see Blues across the country looking out for their communities by providing essential sustenance to those who need it over those critical summer months.”
